# IDE extension settings and commands

> Reference for every CodeRabbit IDE extension setting and Command Palette command in VS Code, Cursor, and other editors, generated from the published extension, with notes on Restricted Mode and keyboard shortcuts.

This reference lists every setting and command of the extension. It is generated from CodeRabbit extension `0.25.0`. See the [release notes](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/release-notes.md) for what changed in each version. For the CodeRabbit configuration that shapes a review, such as `.coderabbit.yaml`, see [Which review configuration applies](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/review.md#which-review-configuration-applies).

## Open the settings

Select the gear icon on the **Review** view title bar, or run **CodeRabbit: Settings** from the Command Palette. Both open your editor's Settings filtered to the CodeRabbit extension.

You can set most settings for your user or for a single workspace. The **Scope** line of each entry in the [settings reference](#settings-reference) says where a setting can go. To edit `settings.json` directly, add the keys like this:

```json settings.json theme={null}
{
  "coderabbit.autoReviewMode": "auto",
  "coderabbit.agentType": "Claude Code"
}
```

## Settings by task

Each of these pages explains when to change a setting and what it does:

* `coderabbit.autoReviewMode`: [Review automatically after each commit](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/review.md#review-automatically-after-each-commit)
* `coderabbit.agentType` and `coderabbit.autoStartTask`: [Fix findings with your AI agent](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/fix-with-ai.md)
* `coderabbit.accountRegion`: [Use an EU-hosted account](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/sign-in.md#use-an-eu-hosted-account)
* `coderabbit.respectGitIgnore`: [What gets reviewed](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/review.md#what-gets-reviewed)
* `coderabbit.completionNotifications` and `coderabbit.reviewCompletionSound`: [Get notified when a review finishes](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/review.md#get-notified-when-a-review-finishes)
* `coderabbit.selfHostedUrl`: [Use the IDE extension with self-hosted CodeRabbit](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/self-hosted.md)
* `coderabbit.region`: deprecated; the extension moves its value to `coderabbit.accountRegion` at startup.

## Restricted Mode

When you open a workspace you haven't trusted, the extension runs in Restricted Mode:

* Workspace values of `coderabbit.agentType` and `coderabbit.autoStartTask` are ignored. Only your user settings apply.
* `coderabbit.selfHostedUrl` is ignored, even in your user settings, and the extension connects to CodeRabbit Cloud.
* **CodeRabbit: Set up CLI and skills** isn't available.
* Git commands that group worktrees and look up your email for self-hosted sign-in don't run.

Trust the workspace to lift these limits.

## Settings reference

### `coderabbit.accountRegion`

Choose the region where your CodeRabbit account is hosted. Match the website you use to sign in. Changing this setting connects the extension to that region; it does not move your account.

* Type: `string`
* Default: `us`
* Scope: User, remote, and workspace settings
* Allowed values:
  * `us`: For accounts using [app.coderabbit.ai](https://app.coderabbit.ai). Labeled **US (default)** in the Settings editor.
  * `eu`: For accounts using [app.eu.coderabbit.ai](https://app.eu.coderabbit.ai). Labeled **EU** in the Settings editor.

### `coderabbit.agentType`

The AI agent to use for 'Fix with AI' functionality.

* Type: `string`
* Default: `Native`
* Scope: User, remote, and workspace settings
* Untrusted workspaces: workspace values are ignored and only your user setting applies
* Allowed values:
  * `Native`: Use built-in AI agent (default). Falls back to Clipboard if not available.
  * `Claude Code`: Use Claude Code in terminal
  * `Claude Code Extension`: Use Claude Code VSCode Extension (requires the Claude Code extension)
  * `Codex CLI`: Use Codex CLI in terminal
  * `Clipboard`: Copy instructions to clipboard
  * `Cline`: Use Cline (requires the Cline extension)
  * `Roo`: Use Roo (requires the Roo Code extension)
  * `Kilo Code`: Use Kilo Code (requires the Kilo Code extension)
  * `Augment Code`: Use Augment Code (requires the Augment Code extension)
  * `opencode`: Use opencode in terminal

### `coderabbit.autoReviewMode`

How to handle review after commits

* Type: `string`
* Default: `prompt`
* Scope: User, remote, and workspace settings
* Allowed values:
  * `disabled`: Don't prompt for review after commits
  * `prompt`: Prompt to start a review after commits (default)
  * `auto`: Automatically start review after commits with 10 second cancel window

### `coderabbit.autoStartTask`

Automatically start task for supported AI agents. When disabled, requires manual confirmation to begin.

* Type: `boolean`
* Default: `true`
* Scope: User, remote, and workspace settings
* Untrusted workspaces: workspace values are ignored and only your user setting applies

### `coderabbit.completionNotifications`

Request a macOS Notification Center status alert on local desktop sessions when a CodeRabbit review completes or fails. Successful reviews also show an IDE notification with Show Review. Other platforms and remote/web sessions use the IDE notification. macOS notification permissions and Focus settings control OS alert visibility.

* Type: `boolean`
* Default: `false`
* Scope: Local user settings only

### `coderabbit.respectGitIgnore`

Exclude ignored untracked files supplied by Git from local reviews. Tracked and staged files remain eligible even if they match ignore rules. Disabling this does not discover ignored files omitted by Git. Built-in file exclusions still apply.

* Type: `boolean`
* Default: `true`
* Scope: User, remote, workspace, and folder settings

### `coderabbit.reviewCompletionSound`

Play a short sound when a review completes. Requires the CodeRabbit panel to have been opened in this window. Playback depends on your editor's audio permissions and system volume; blocked sounds are skipped.

* Type: `boolean`
* Default: `false`
* Scope: Local user settings only

### `coderabbit.selfHostedUrl`

URL of your self-hosted CodeRabbit server (e.g., `https://coderabbit.yourcompany.com`). When configured, the extension will connect directly to your server bypassing authentication.

* Type: `string`
* Default: None
* Scope: Local user settings only

### `coderabbit.region`

**Deprecated.** Use [`coderabbit.accountRegion`](#coderabbit-accountregion) instead. Your saved region still applies until you set Account region.

* Type: `string`
* Default: `us`
* Scope: User, remote, and workspace settings
* Allowed values:
  * `us`
  * `eu`

## Commands

| Command | Command ID |
| - | - |
| CodeRabbit: Change Organization | `coderabbit-vscode.changeOrganization` |
| CodeRabbit: Cleanup previous reviews | `coderabbit-vscode.cleanupReviews` |
| CodeRabbit: Collapse all | `coderabbit-vscode.collapseAllComments` |
| CodeRabbit: Expand all | `coderabbit-vscode.expandAllComments` |
| CodeRabbit: Give feedback | `coderabbit-vscode.giveFeedback` |
| CodeRabbit: Logout | `coderabbit-vscode.logout` |
| CodeRabbit: Review History | `coderabbit-vscode.showHistory` |
| CodeRabbit: Set up CLI and skills | `coderabbit-vscode.setupCliAndSkills` |
| CodeRabbit: Settings | `coderabbit-vscode.showSettings` |
| CodeRabbit: Start Review | `coderabbit-vscode.initiateReview` |

The actions on a CodeRabbit comment thread, such as **Apply suggested change**, **Ignore**, **Fix with AI**, and **Provide feedback**, aren't in the Command Palette. Use them from the thread's title bar; see [Act on a finding](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/findings.md#act-on-a-finding).

The extension has no default keyboard shortcuts. To add one, open Keyboard Shortcuts and bind a command ID from the table, for example `coderabbit-vscode.initiateReview` for **CodeRabbit: Start Review**.
