# Update or uninstall the IDE extension

> Keep the CodeRabbit extension up to date in VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and other VS Code-based editors, check which version you have, and uninstall it.

Keep the CodeRabbit extension current, check which version you have, or remove it from your editor.

## Update the extension

Your editor updates extensions according to its own settings.

The extension also checks the latest version that CodeRabbit published each time it starts. When yours is older, it shows "A new version of the extension (X) is available." with **View Extensions**, which opens the Extensions view without installing anything. No setting turns this check off.

Editors that install from Open VSX can show the message before their Extensions view offers the update. Update from the Extensions view once it offers the new version, or [install the VSIX](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/install.md#install-from-a-vsix-file).

To see which version you have, open the Extensions view and select CodeRabbit; the version appears next to the name. The extension itself doesn't show its version. To see what changed, read the [release notes](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/release-notes.md).

## Uninstall the extension

To also remove stored reviews and other local data, follow [Remove local data](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/ide/privacy.md#remove-local-data) instead.

**1. Uninstall**

In the Extensions view, select CodeRabbit, then **Uninstall**.

**2. Restart the editor**

Restart the editor to finish the removal.

The CodeRabbit CLI and any skills that setup installed stay installed; remove them as described in the [CLI documentation](https://docs.coderabbit.ai/cli.md).
