This reference lists every setting and command of the extension. It is generated from CodeRabbit extension 0.25.0. See the release notes for what changed in each version. For the CodeRabbit configuration that shapes a review, such as .coderabbit.yaml, see Which review configuration applies.

Open the settings

Select the gear icon on the Review view title bar, or run CodeRabbit: Settings from the Command Palette. Both open your editor’s Settings filtered to the CodeRabbit extension. You can set most settings for your user or for a single workspace. The Scope line of each entry in the settings reference says where a setting can go. To edit settings.json directly, add the keys like this:
settings.json

Settings by task

Each of these pages explains when to change a setting and what it does:

Restricted Mode

When you open a workspace you haven’t trusted, the extension runs in Restricted Mode:
  • Workspace values of coderabbit.agentType and coderabbit.autoStartTask are ignored. Only your user settings apply.
  • coderabbit.selfHostedUrl is ignored, even in your user settings, and the extension connects to CodeRabbit Cloud.
  • CodeRabbit: Set up CLI and skills isn’t available.
  • Git commands that group worktrees and look up your email for self-hosted sign-in don’t run.
Trust the workspace to lift these limits.

Settings reference

coderabbit.accountRegion

Choose the region where your CodeRabbit account is hosted. Match the website you use to sign in. Changing this setting connects the extension to that region; it does not move your account.

coderabbit.agentType

The AI agent to use for ā€˜Fix with AI’ functionality.

    • Claude Code Extension: Use Claude Code VSCode Extension (requires the Claude Code extension)
    • Codex CLI: Use Codex CLI in terminal

  • Scope: User, remote, and workspace settings
  • Untrusted workspaces: workspace values are ignored and only your user setting applies

coderabbit.completionNotifications

Request a macOS Notification Center status alert on local desktop sessions when a CodeRabbit review completes or fails. Successful reviews also show an IDE notification with Show Review. Other platforms and remote/web sessions use the IDE notification. macOS notification permissions and Focus settings control OS alert visibility.
  • Type: boolean
  • Default: false
  • Scope: Local user settings only

coderabbit.respectGitIgnore

Exclude ignored untracked files supplied by Git from local reviews. Tracked and staged files remain eligible even if they match ignore rules. Disabling this does not discover ignored files omitted by Git. Built-in file exclusions still apply.
  • Type: boolean
  • Default: true
  • Scope: User, remote, workspace, and folder settings

coderabbit.reviewCompletionSound

Play a short sound when a review completes. Requires the CodeRabbit panel to have been opened in this window. Playback depends on your editor’s audio permissions and system volume; blocked sounds are skipped.
  • Type: boolean
  • Default: false
  • Scope: Local user settings only

coderabbit.selfHostedUrl

URL of your self-hosted CodeRabbit server (e.g., https://coderabbit.yourcompany.com). When configured, the extension will connect directly to your server bypassing authentication.
  • Type: string
  • Default: None
  • Scope: Local user settings only

coderabbit.region

Deprecated. Use coderabbit.accountRegion instead. Your saved region still applies until you set Account region.

  • Allowed values:
    • us
    • eu

Commands

The actions on a CodeRabbit comment thread, such as Apply suggested change, Ignore, Fix with AI, and Provide feedback, aren’t in the Command Palette. Use them from the thread’s title bar; see Act on a finding. The extension has no default keyboard shortcuts. To add one, open Keyboard Shortcuts and bind a command ID from the table, for example coderabbit-vscode.initiateReview for CodeRabbit: Start Review.
