You sign in to CodeRabbit Cloud through your browser, with your Git provider or SSO. Sign-in applies to every window of that editor profile. The extension has no API key option: browser sign-in is the only way to sign in to CodeRabbit Cloud. Using self-hosted CodeRabbit? See Use the IDE extension with self-hosted CodeRabbit.

Sign in with your browser

1

Start sign-in

Select the CodeRabbit icon in the activity bar to open the CodeRabbit sidebar, or select Login in the “Log in to CodeRabbit to get started!” notification.
2

Open the browser

Select Sign in with browser. Your editor may ask whether to open an external website.
3

Sign in to CodeRabbit

In the browser, sign in with your Git provider or SSO. If you’re new to CodeRabbit, the browser takes you through account setup first.
4

Choose an organization

If you can access more than one organization, choose one under “Choose a CodeRabbit organization”. CodeRabbit recommends one based on your repository’s remote. If your SSO workspace has more than one Git provider, you pick the provider first.
5

Return to the editor

The success page redirects you to the editor. Your editor may ask whether to allow the link to open.
6

Confirm

“Authenticated successfully!” appears, and the CodeRabbit sidebar shows your account.

If sign-in never returns to the editor

While the extension waits for the browser, the sidebar shows “Logging in” with these options:
  • “Didn’t get redirected? Click here to open the login page” opens the login page again.
  • Paste code from browser signs you in without the redirect. On the browser’s success page, select Copy next to the code field. In the editor, select Paste code from browser and paste the code when asked to “Enter your authentication token from the browser”.
  • The X button cancels the sign-in. Select Sign in with browser to start over.
The success page also has a button named after your editor, such as Open Cursor, which tries the redirect again. In an editor that isn’t listed under Supported editors, the browser can’t show the success page, so neither the redirect nor Paste code from browser works. Web-based cloud IDEs, such as GitHub Codespaces opened in a browser tab, aren’t supported, and sign-in may not complete there because the redirect can’t reach an editor that runs in the browser. Connect your desktop editor to the remote workspace instead; see Install in remote, container, and cloud workspaces. If the editor can’t open your browser, a notification offers Copy Sign-in Link. Paste the link into a browser to continue. The extension waits 5 minutes for the browser. After that, “CodeRabbit sign-in timed out before the browser callback arrived.” appears with Retry, which you can use once. For other sign-in problems, see troubleshooting.

Choose the organization for reviews

Each review runs for one CodeRabbit organization, which decides the plan, settings, and seat that apply. If you can access only one organization, reviews use it, and there is nothing to choose. Before each review, the extension checks the repository’s origin remote, unless you chose an organization yourself for this repository:
  • When the remote belongs to exactly one active organization that you can access, the extension selects that organization, even if you picked another one in the browser at sign-in. With no match, or more than one, the current organization stays selected.
  • Matching works for GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket Cloud remotes. A self-managed GitLab remote matches only when its domain matches the organization’s GitLab instance. Azure DevOps remotes aren’t matched.
To switch organizations yourself, select Account & usage, then Switch organization, or run CodeRabbit: Change Organization. For that repository, your choice takes precedence over matching until you work in a different repository or reload the editor.

Use an EU-hosted account

That usually applies only to EU-based enterprise customers. If your organization is hosted in the EU CodeRabbit datacenter, which means you sign in at app.eu.coderabbit.ai, set coderabbit.accountRegion to eu in the settings before you sign in. If you’re already signed in, sign out and sign in again. If you sign in with the wrong region, the extension changes the setting for you, signs you out, and shows “This organization is hosted in the EU region. CodeRabbit switched regions; sign in again to continue.” Sign in again.

Check your plan and usage

This section applies to CodeRabbit Cloud. The Account & usage button at the top of the Review view shows your organization and plan. Select it to open a page with Switch organization and View usage & limits. View usage & limits opens a dialog in the editor titled “Review usage” with your organization’s name. It shows the review cap, your reviews, your spend, and the date the period resets. For seats, hourly limits, and what happens when you reach one, see Seats and limits.

Stay signed in or sign out

Your session refreshes automatically. If it can’t be refreshed, the CodeRabbit sidebar returns to the sign-in screen.
  • If your Git provider credentials expire or are revoked, a notification offers Sign in again.
  • If your workspace requires SSO, “This workspace requires SSO. Sign out of CodeRabbit, sign in with your workspace’s SSO, and try again.” appears. Sign out, then sign in with SSO.
To sign out, select the sign-out icon on the Review view title bar, or run CodeRabbit: Logout. Signing out removes your stored credentials. Your review history stays.

Troubleshooting

Fix sign-in that doesn’t return to the editor, organization errors, and expired sessions.
